On March 6, 2026, the brave network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) inside the country, known as the Resistance Units, launched a massive wave of nationwide activities to project a unified message: the Iranian people support the newly announced National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) Provisional Government and desire a democratic republic. Operating under the constant threat of the clerical regime’s crackdowns and amidst severe wartime conditions, these activists took to the streets to break the wall of silence. From Zahedan in the southeast to Baneh and Ilam in the west, and major cities like Tehran and Mashhad, the youth mobilized to reject all forms of dictatorship, echoing the sentiment that the era of both the Shah and the mullahs is permanently over. Widespread activities of the Resistance Units The grassroots mobilization spanned across multiple provinces, with Resistance Units employing various tactics of defiance in Tehran, Mashhad, Arak, Ilam, Zahedan, Baneh, and Shiraz. Youth and activists boldly displayed large banners, distributed flyers, read public statements in open streets and mountainous areas, and painted red graffiti on city walls under the cover of night. Activists wearing traditional Baluchi attire read statements declaring their readiness and support for a democratic republic. Meanwhile, in Shiraz, activists took to the streets at night to paint city walls with red graffiti, writing slogans such as “Long live the National Liberation Army” and “Salute to Rajavi,” alongside placing printed images of the Iranian Resistance leadership on walls and vehicle windows. The principle of “No to Shah, no to mullahs” A defining theme of the March 6 actions was the total rejection of a return to the past. The people of Iran recognize that the remnants of the Shah’s fascist dictatorship are futilely attempting to hijack the uprising and the sacrifices made over 47 years of suffering and resistance against the brutal mullahs’ regime. In Zahedan, one placard read: “The disgraceful stance of the Shah’s son toward the oppressed ethnicities of Iran once again underlines the importance of the ‘no to shah no to mullahs’ principle.” The message is clear that “Baluchestan is awake and despises the shah and mullahs.” Across the country, a unifying chant echoed on placards and in slogans: “Down with the oppressor, be it the shah or the supreme leader,” and “A dictatorship is a dictatorship, whether with a turban or with a crown.” The Resistance Units declared their determination to finally break the invalid cycle of the mullahs’ and Shah’s regimes. The NCRI provisional government and current crisis The massive grassroots support for the Provisional Government follows its formal announcement by the NCRI Secretariat on February 28, 2026. This pivotal declaration came as the Middle East plunged into a renewed military confrontation, with the United States and Israel launching sweeping strikes against the Iranian regime’s military and nuclear infrastructure. The Resistance Units noted on their placards that recent events, including the death of Ali Khamenei, mark “the death of religious tyranny and the end of the rule of the mullahs.” The NCRI’s declaration draws upon a constitutional precedent established by the Resistance in October 1981, providing a clear roadmap to dismantle the current theocracy. The political foundation of this transition is Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan, which completely rejects absolute clerical rule (velayat-e faqih) in favor of a democratic republic based on universal suffrage. The plan mandates the total dissolution of the regime’s suppressive apparatus, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), abolishes the death penalty, ensures complete gender equality, and commits to a non-nuclear Iran. The power rests with the Iranian people While foreign military strikes continue to pound regime targets as a result of the mullahs’ illicit nuclear and missile pursuits, the ultimate solution to the Iranian crisis cannot come from the outside. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, recently issued an urgent message directing Resistance Units to care for civilians and emphasizing that only the Iranian people possess the legitimacy to determine their political future. Iran is its people,” Mrs. Rajavi stated. “No future for Iran can be realized from the outside; it can only be built by the Iranian people themselves.” As the courageous Resistance Units have demonstrated on the streets, the Iranian society is rapidly progressing toward a democratic revolution, fully prepared to overthrow the religious dictatorship and establish a government that truly represents the sovereignty of the Iranian people.
