Field reports: Rebellious youth shatter regime crackdown during Iran’s January uprising

Despite the Iranian regime’s frantic efforts to conceal the scale of the nationwide uprising through severe internet blackouts and censorship, reports continue to leak out, revealing a volatile society determined to overthrow the religious dictatorship. New field reports, received with delay due to these disruptions, detail a week of intense confrontations in early January 2026, showing that the rebellious youth held their ground against heavily armed suppression forces. The current wave of protests, which erupted on December 28, 2025, initially began as an economic stoppage by bazaari shopkeepers and merchants in central Tehran. Triggered by the rial’s sharp plunge, price spikes, and fears of bankruptcy, the movement quickly expanded geographically to hundreds of locations and socially to include universities, abd the messaging rapidly shifted. What began as livelihood grievances transformed into explicit chants for regime change. Naziabad: A zone of full-scale battle On the evening of January 8, 2026, the Naziabad district in Tehran turned into a scene of a “full-scale battle” between the rebellious youth and the regime’s suppression machine. In a widespread offensive, the youth set fire to the motorbikes and vehicles of the regime’s Special Units. By controlling the streets, they effectively grounded the enemy forces. Reports indicate that a bus used to transport suppression forces was also set on fire by the protesters. Chanting “Death to the Dictator,” the youth in Naziabad demonstrated that the regime’s heavy-handed tactics have failed to instill fear. On January 8, 2026, the building of the “Khomeini Relief Committee” was set on fire. This operation, aimed at the institutions that plunder the nation’s wealth while the people suffer from poverty, was accompanied by widespread support from the public, with cars honking their horns in solidarity. These operations once again displayed the shaky foundations of Ali Khamenei’s hollow authority. Nationwide offensive: Mashhad, Qazvin, and Zanjan Reports received from the battle scenes on January 8 and January 9, 2026, indicate an expansion of attacks by rebellious youth against the regime’s police and paramilitary centers. In Mashhad on January 9, rebellious youth raided Police Station 67 in Tus Boulevard. During this confrontation, they destroyed the equipment of the Special Units and managed to take control of parts of the boulevard. By using fire to block the path of the regime’s thugs, they successfully halted the advance of suppression forces. In Zanjan, similar scenes of defiance unfolded as protesters engaged in hit-and-run clashes with the wild thugs of the Special Units. By setting up street barricades, the youth created a deadlock for the regime’s forces. The bravery seen in these cities serves as a testament to the Iranian people’s resolve. The slogans chanted across the country have become decisive and radical. In Zanjan and Qazvin, the youth chanted, “Death to the Dictator,” while grounding the suppression machinery. The resonance of the slogan, “While the mullahs are in power, we won’t have a country,” signals that the nation has moved beyond any hope for reform and is fighting for the total overthrow of the criminal regime.
